I love my youthtown, this is were I studied, got my first jobs and enjoyed the nights and parties. this is the Oude Gracht, the beating heart of Utrecht. It’s so chill, so laidback with people strolling along the canals, terraces filling up and the iconic Dom Tower standing tall in the background.

This canal dates back to the 12th century and is unique because of its wharf cellars. They were originally built for trade, now home to cozy cafés and restaurants. I like to go to the empty wharfs and sit along the canal, maybe with a sandwich or coffee in my hand and just watch people and citylife.

From spring till summer, the area is full of life and growded, and you can’t easily get a seat on a terrace. I know, it’s terrible. But in winter that’s when citylife in Utrecht is more calm.

Fun fact: The Dom Tower was once connected to the Dom Church, but a storm in 1674 destroyed the nave, leaving the tower standing alone.
