The song that every Brabander sings along at the top of his lungs: Guus Meeuwis, a local folk singer who comes from North Brabant, made this song and managed to express what every Brabander feels in his heart: And then I think of Brabant, because the lights are still on there. I miss the warmth of a village pub here. The entitlement of people with a soft ‘G’ You can find these stickers all over the Netherlands. It stands for the pride of Brabant.

North Brabant (Broabant) is a province in the south of the Netherlands and occupies a central position between Zeeland in the west and Limburg in the east. The capital is ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The province has approximately 2.5 million inhabitants, which puts it in third place in the Netherlands. It is the largest in area after Gelderland. North Brabant has a relatively strong urbanization, which is referred to as the ‘Brabantse Stedenrij’.

Rooted in the Duchy of Brabant, the province still has a recognizable character of its own in the 21st century. This is evident, among other things, from the Brabant dialects and traditions such as the carnival and the shooters’ guilds. Catholicism, which was a socially dominant factor for centuries, has had a major influence on the development of North Brabant’s own identity.

The province is the third largest economy in the Netherlands, after North Holland and South Holland. The agricultural and horticultural sector is traditionally strong, as is forestry. In livestock farming, North Brabant is the largest when it comes to pigs and poultry. Also of economic importance are the manufacturing and knowledge industry in the Eindhoven Metropolitan Area, the process industry near Moerdijk, and the large number of distribution centers.
There are many higher education institutions, including three academic ones.
